SILVER COIN

The only wisdom is knowing you know nothing.

~Socrates

I once met a old merchant,
On a crowded market of a city,
Who gave me a silver coin,
And told in his tiny voice,
Anything I ask him, shall he grant,

For money more than the desert’s sand,
For wine more than seas and land,
For power more than my peasant hand,
So I thought holding the coin and,
I told I wanted simple wisdom only,

“Look around to know” he gently told,
As the people in chaos loudly strolled,
Amongst a thousands around me with bronze,
I realized only I held a silver in my hands,
Wisdom means to be alone and to take a stance,
Even if there’s everybody around you to dance.
